is the meaning you give it.
As an Experiential Constructivist, I choose to believe that we construct our personal reality from our interpretation of what we are experiencing moment by moment. To put it another way; 'there is no reality, only perception!'
Starting from that assumption, and the only reasons you would start there - or not - would be your reasons.
E. Graham Howe in 'She and Me' [Triton and Candle, 1974], describes truth thus:
truth: in small letters is what-I-experience-now : your truth and my truth are equally respectable, but cannot be the same or shared.
In capital letters, the TRUTH is that which is BEYOND us, but is influencing us in the relationship if we allow it to do so.
To the extent that we are willing to ask more questions, seek more information about self and others, we might shine more light into the hidden corners of our mind; might be more ready to remove the blinkers that, as a form self-protection, blind our unconscious.
One very good line of inquiry when we are protecting or defending ourselves is, "What am I afraid of?" "What is the worst that I am imagining?" "Where does this fear originate?"
Here's my little meditation on courage. Ponder each line for a few moments, perhaps with your eyes closed, if only as a kinesthetic metaphor.
Fear keeps my eyes closed - if I open them, I'll see the light.
Fear deafens me - if I listen, I'll feel the love.
Fear silences me - when I find my voice, I will hear the world.
Fear deadens my sensibilities - when I embrace my fears, I'll came alive.
Go well
