It is sobering to think that this book, ground-breaking in 1996, still stands practically alone in looking at class, politics and counselling in the UK. This book has received unequivocally enthusiastic reviews in a wide range of journals. Many counsellor-educators have put it on their 'essential reading' list. Put it on yours now.
Reviews

I think this book is an excellent exploration of important, and all too neglected aspects of the relationship between counsellor and client, ie class and politics. … I know from my training workshops on cross-cultural counselling that many people are not comfortable, even now, with that challenge [to the ideology of counselling]. It will likely be the case that both clients and counsellors may also be uncomfortable in exploring the topic of class. This book will be of enormous help in opening and focusing the debate. … Recommended reading.
