A sense of perspective...

No matter that we may have been uprooted, and taken many turnings along the way, we are all attached to our roots. If we define ourselves by where we came from, acting as if our past is our only potential, we have less chance of realising our true potential.

The roots may have died long since, and yet, many people choose to live in the shadow of history rather than turn toward the light and walk into the future.

Far hills may beckon, but their promise - or the distance - might seem too daunting and the prospect too shadowy. The familiarity of the present, though painful, may offer an illusion of security that keeps us hoping but stops us acting.

In the great scheme of things, we are of no more significance than an acorn in a forest, pebbles on a beach, droplets in a tsunami, but the choices we make - left or right, toward or away from, inward or outward, self, other or something beyond - those choices might move mountains, start dynasties, end wars or even topple great oaks.

We are all part of everything.
