...and the recall of info much easier.
Go well
Here are 5 ways to make learning anything easy and fun, and therefore make the recall of information much easier.
Relax and Breathe
Take a few minutes to take in 5 or 6 deep breaths. Using the ratio of 1:4:2 is best to provide the brain and muscles with plenty of oxygen, and to help induce a state of relaxation. So, breathe in to a count of 2, hold the breath for a count of 8, and breathe out slowly for a count of 4.
While breathing, close your eyes if you wish and allow your body to simply relax into your chair, sofa, or wherever you are. It may help to imagine a relaxing wave of your favourite colour enveloping your body. When you are totally relaxed, you are more receptive to the information you are about to learn. Equally, when you attempt to recall the information, bring yourself into the same relaxed state.
Get Curious
Aren't children really quick to pick up new ideas and learn new skills? Why is that, do you think?
One thing children do (sometimes to the annoyance of less patient parents) is constantly ask questions, and persist until they understand. They like to ask why, how, where, when, who else does that, how often? We tend to lose this innocent curiosity as we go through school for fear of looking silly or stupid.
When you set off to learn something new, reconnect with your Inner Child and start asking all sorts of questions that pop up in your mind. Let the answers to those questions create new questions. Opening your mind to a subject in this natural way makes you more receptive to learning.
Use all your senses
When you come across a new idea or experience that is unfamiliar to you, use your senses of sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell to play with the new ideas. Try "looking at it" a new way or from different perspectives. Ask yourself if it "sounds right" to you, or if it "strikes a chord" with anything else you might already know. Does the explanation "feel right" to you; does it "sit well" with what you already know to be true; and have you fully "grasped" the idea? Does the very thought leave a "bitter taste" in your mouth; is it "hard to swallow"; and have you fully digested everything you need to know about it? Will this newfound knowledge lead you to the sweet smell of success, or is there something fishy about it? You get the idea buy now.
By engaging all your senses into the learning experience, you are making it easy for your brain to recall the information when it's required.
Use your imagination
When you learn something new, particularly when it's a new process or action, it can be very useful to practice the idea/action/process over and over in your mind. Imagine yourself actually using the information you have learned. This is called future pacing and can help to cement the idea in your head making it a little more tangible. Tangible ideas applied in practice stick far easier than intangible theory.
Modelling
If you want to learn how to do something, first find someone who is already doing it well. If you know them in person, then use your curiosity to ask them as many questions as you can think of and find out all you can about how they do what they do. Ask them why, how, when, and especially what feedback they give themselves so they know they've done it right.
If you don't know the person, then study as many examples of their behaviour as you can. Watch them, read what they write, listen to how they talk about subjects you want to imitate. The idea is that you want to begin to feel the way they feel and match your thoughts and behaviour to theirs, so that doing what they do becomes a lot easier for you to master.
Modelling is a much more complex subject than can be briefly touched on here, but you would be well-advised to learn more about modelling if you are serious about learning how to do something in the shortest possible time.
Remember, learning doesn't have to be a chore and the more fun you can make it, the more relaxed you can be, the more you can involve all your senses and future pace the ideas, the easier it will be to recall the information you are trying to learn.
